Frontend developer. I build web apps and, lately, iOS apps.

By day, national platforms at Cineca. The rest of the time, the projects below: a padel app, a village sports festival, orders for a bar.

What I’m building

Rallymate

In development · TestFlight soon

An iPhone app for friends who play padel together: you log doubles matches set by set, an opponent confirms the result, and the group gets a ranking nobody argues with. I’m making it on my own, from the idea to the backend.

Platform
iPhone, iOS 26
App
SwiftUI, MVVM, async/await
Backend
Supabase: Postgres, RLS, Edge Functions
Tests

Confirm the match yourself

Sample data. You’re on the losing pair: until you confirm, the ranking doesn’t move.

Under the hood

  1. Nobody can fiddle with the score

The app never writes a match on its own: every result goes through a server function that checks the rules, and each group only sees its own data.

  2. The ranking is computed, not stored

It’s rebuilt from the confirmed matches every time you open it, so it can never fall out of step with the results.

  3. Motion that stays out of the way

A few animations, the same ones across the whole app. If Reduce Motion is on, the app respects it, and haptics only fire when you tap.

Projects

Two more projects that started from a real need, built on my own from the interface to the database.

A five-a-side match seen from straight above, in the penalty area, with the players' long shadows on the grass.

La Fossa Events

In production · 2 editions run on it

The platform behind a village sports festival I co-organize: a management app for staff and cashiers, and the public site where players sign up and book the pitch. During the festival, I’m one of its users.

Comande

Deployed · venue rollout pending

Orders for small bars, in three steps: a stock log, then phone orders with a bar screen that updates live, then the same product adapted to a second venue.

About

Portrait of Nicola Buompane: short beard, black sweater, warm grey background.

I’m Nicola. I live in Caserta, in southern Italy, and I’ve been writing frontend for five years.

By day I build the frontend of national platforms for Italian universities at Cineca: Angular, TypeScript, and a lot of care for performance and tests.

After hours I like building whole things, from the idea down to the database. Lately that has meant mobile: a Flutter certification in 2024, and now Rallymate, my first iOS app in SwiftUI.

I use coding agents every day. They make me faster, but what ships I read and decide myself.

Experience

Five years of frontend in production: automotive software at Spindox first, national university platforms at Cineca today.

Cineca – now

Frontend Developer · Naples · hybrid

I build the frontend of national platforms for Italian higher education. First through Modis, then hired directly by Cineca in April 2023.

  • National Medical Exams Platform

I designed and built the full frontend of the digital marking system for the national medical school admission exams, with real-time validation across concurrent sessions. It went live on the national exams with no downtime.

  • Student Attendance Dashboard

I turned a manual university process into responsive screens for admin staff on desktop and tablet.

  • Performance & Quality

I cut initial load time with code splitting and lazy loading, and set the testing and code review standards for the frontend team.

Stack Angular 14+, Vue.js, TypeScript, RxJS, SCSS, GitLab CI/CD

Spindox –

Full Stack Developer · Remote · via Modis

I built software for the automotive sector, end to end.

  • Automotive frontends

I built React frontends on top of NestJS services.

  • From requirements to the cloud

I owned the full cycle, from requirements to cloud deployment, with automated tests in Jest.

  • Distributed teams

I worked with international teams across several time zones.

Stack React, NestJS, Node.js, MongoDB, Jest, Docker
